MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks knew they had a tough task ahead of them on Wednesday night.

The Lady Jayhawks welcomed the undefeated Mid-Michigan Lakers to Bartels-Rode Gymnasium. It was indeed a tough night for MCC, which dropped a 90-71 decision to the Lakers.

“We didn’t play our best tonight,” Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper said. “Our defense let us down tonight. You have to play well against a team like Mid-Michigan.”

MCC fell behind 23-16 after one quarter and 43-34 at the half. Mid-Michigan came out in the third quarter and put up 31 points to take a commanding 74-50 lead heading into the final quarter. The Jayhawks had a 21-16 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Ty’veonna Davis led MCC (9-9, 3-2) with 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Arrionna Williams had 15 points and four rebounds.  Maiya Hill also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points. She also had nine rebounds. McKena Wilson had nine points, Ali Phillips had seven and Remi Sponseller had five.

Mid-Michigan is now 19-0 overall, 6-0 in the conference.

The Jayhawks will travel to Alpena on Friday and Kirkland on Saturday with hopes of bringing home a pair of conference victories.
