MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks opened the conference season in grand style on Wednesday night with a 63-41 victory over Delta Community College.

The Jayhawks owned a four-point lead after one quarter and six at the half. The second half was a whole different story as the Lady Jayhawks had a 16-4 scoring advantage in the third quarter to break the game wide open.

“It was a very good win for us tonight,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “It was a team effort. The ball movement was a lot better in this game. When we move the ball, we are a better team.”

Arionna Williams led the Lady Jayhawks with 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Kaitlyn Bennett added 12 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Ty’veonna Davis also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also had five assists and four steals. McKena Wilson had 11 points. Ali Phillips added nine rebounds and Gaby Reeve had five.

MCC (7-1, 1-0) will host Bay College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
