MANISTEE — To say it wasn’t Manistee’s night would be an understatement.

Traverse City West got hot early, finishing the game with nine 3-point field goals and cruised to a 63-36 non-conference girls basketball win Wednesday night.

“They shot the ball well at the start and every little move we tried to make was answered by a pretty shot at the other end,” Manistee coach Kenn Kott said. “Not a lot you can do. When the other team has a hot shooting night, it gets away fast. That’s partly our fault for not having the coverage we should have. We were there, but we were there late.”

Manistee did lead once, 4-3 early in the first quarter. But the Mariners were outscored, 11-3 the rest of the quarter and trailed, 14-7, at the horn.

While the Titans were on the mark shooting, the Mariners never could find the range and found themselves in a 36-12 hole at the  half. It was 53-16 after three.

Jayna Edmondson finished the night with 13 points to lead Manistee. Ava Mae Fett contributed seven and Lindsey Gardner added six.  Alayna Edmondson pulled down seven rebounds and had four assists and five steals to top the Manistee stat chart and Libby McCarthy had six boards.

Manistee dropped to 4-4 and will host Hart in a makeup game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
