MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks fell behind in the first half and could not recover in an 80-73 league loss to Bay College on Saturday.

The game was played at MCC’s Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

The second quarter was a game of runs as the Lady Jayhawks fell behind by 10, went on an 11-0 run, but the Norse used a 13-2 run and took a 36-26 lead into halftime.

“This was a game we surely could have won today,” Lady Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper said. “We did not compete in the first half and fell behind early. Our defense let us down the whole game.  We have some work to do.”

MCC outscored Bay College 47-44 in the second half, but fell seven points short.

Ty’veonna Davis led MCC with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Arrionna Williams added 15 points and seven rebounds. Maiya Hill chipped in eight points and six rebounds. McKena Wilson and Ali Phillips each scored six points. Alexis McMahon had seven rebounds.

The Jayhawks (7-8, 1-1) hit the road on Wednesday to take on Grand Rapids Community College.
