Mason County Central’s wrestling team split a pair of dual matches Wednesday, defeating Ravenna 42-18 and losing to North Muskegon 24-44.

“We had several wrestlers out today for various reasons and it hurt us,” said Spartans coach Kendel Trim. “Individually we had some success tonight.”

Winning both matches on the night were Nyveah Wendt (junior 120-pounder), Aiden Hirschfeld (senior 126-pounder), Hunter Sanford (junior 132) and Zane McCabe (senior 138).

Also winning matches were William Thomsen (freshman 144), William Wright (freshman 150), Brayden Overmyer (senior 157), and Parker Overmyer (freshman 175).

“Brayden wrestled really well for us tonight, and put forth a lot of effort,” Trim added. “He wrestled up at 165 in several matches this year and specifically both matches tonight. We needed him to move up to wrestle and he did a great job. He got a fall against Ravenna and then lost a last second one-point match against North Muskegon.

“He can make 150 so wrestling up at 165 is a tall order, but he did a great job.”
