MUSKEGON – A rough second quarter by the Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks led to a 68-59 loss to the Spring Arbor jayvee team on Tuesday night.

MCC trailed 19-18 after one quarter, but fell behind 38-27 at the half. The Lady Jayhawks outscored  Spring Arbor by one point in the third and fourth quarters and fell by nine points. In the opening half, Spring Arbor made 6-of-16 shots from beyond the 3-point line while MCC struggled with a 1-for-13 performance.

“We played against a good team tonight,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “We battled and played hard on both ends of the floor. We are still working out the kinks, but I’m very excited to start the conference season.”

Ty8’veonna Davis had a strong game for MCC with 23 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists. Remi Sponseller added 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Maiya Hill had 10 rebounds and Kaitlyn Bennett had seven.

 The Jayhawks (6-7) hit the road Saturday for their first conference matchup at Alpena.
