A strong third quarter pushed the Montague Wildcats to a 45-36 West Michigan Conference girls’ basketball victory over Shelby on Monday night.

The Wildcats outscored the Tigers 16-5 in the pivotal third quarter that erased a 23-18 halftime deficit.

Braylyn Bultema had a strong game for the Wildcats with 16 points and eight rebounds. Addison Pranger added 11 points and five rebounds while Adilynn Peterson had seven points and four rebounds.

“We had a sluggish second quarter that ended with a Shelby buzzer beater 3 to end the half and put them up five, but we didn’t let that affect us and we didn’t back down and came out and had a strong second half to come out with the win,” Montague coach Jess DeBruin said.

Montague is now 7-11 overall, 5-6 in conference play.
