MONTAGUE – The Grant girls basketball team overpowered Montague for a 48-34 victory on Monday evening.

The Tigers opened hot with a 16-3 scoring advantage, but the Wildcats fought back and fired off a 21-9 second-quarter scoring run to trail going into halftime, 25-24.

The defense for the Tigers came out of the break limited the Wildcats to just 10 points over the second half while the offense put up 23 points to claim the win.

Grant’s Julie Ashpaugh recorded her 1,000th career point in the game.

The Wildcats’ Braylyn Bultema and Addison Pranger led with nine points apiece, while Avah Vandermeulen and Ella King each scored six points.

Grant (8-3, 5-0) will see CSAA play at Howard City Tri-County on Tuesday.

Montague (3-10, 3-5) visits Fremont on Tuesday for WMC-Lakes action.
