HOLTON – The Manistee girls’ basketball team took down Holton, 65-54, in a non-conference matchup on Monday night.

“We finally shot the ball the way we are capable of,” said Manistee coach Kenn Kott. “Libby McCarthy and Jayna Edmondson showed everyone why they are some of the premier players in the area, but we got key plays from everybody else.”

McCarthy had a strong night for the Mariners with 26 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Jayna Edmondson threw in 20 points and Alayna Edmondson made nine assists. Lindsey Gardner put up a couple of big three-pointers for the Mariners.

“Now we need to keep consistent and put together back-to-back games,” said Kott. “It’s something we’ve had trouble with this year.”

The Red Devils’ Abby Fowler had 10 points, nine assists and five steals, while Ryann Robins put up a double-double of 19 points and 18 rebounds. Kenzie Green and Layla Cannady each threw in 10 points.

“Another tough loss for us, and one where we played well enough to get the win, but just didn’t finish the game out as we would like,” said Holton coach Robert Jordan.

Manistee (8-10, 5-5) will be at home on Wednesday against Benzie Central.

Holton (12-8, 5-5) will travel for WMC-Rivers play at Hart on Friday.
