NEWAYGO – The Newaygo girls basketball team used a balanced attack to fly by White Cloud for a 40-17 CSAA win on Friday. 

The Lions led 18-4 at the half and never looked back.

“A lot of positives came out of the game tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma. “We really played with some intensity on defense and challenged White Cloud on a lot of shots.”

Amaya Lathrop led Newaygo with 10 points, five steals and three assists. Lily Holmes and Naomi Schillman each scored eight points. Addison Goodin added eight rebounds and seven points.

“It’s Snowcoming week, but the girls stayed focused and played with confidence,” Thomasma said. “I’m really proud of them.”

The Indians’ Gracy Holmes scored six points and Jaden Gomez had five points.

Newaygo (6-7, 2-5) will host Holton on Tuesday.

White Cloud (6-10, 2-5) will be at on Friday for league play with Morley-Stanwood.
