HAMILTON – The No. 10 ranked Spring Lake boys swim team went 2-0 in their final dual of the season on Tuesday.
The Lakers edged out No. 9 ranked Hamilton, 96-89, and routed Allegan, 134-23.
“The Lakers’ depth and next-man-up attitude helped the team come out on top in the battle of state-ranked teams,” said Spring Lake coach Mick Homan. “The win gives us a little more motivation going into next week’s OK Rainbow T1 Conference meet.”
Alex Strauss (1:05.73) and Fischer Halsey (1:05.81) qualified for the state tournament in the 100 breast. Johnny Wachter was a double winner with first place finishes in the 50 free (21.74) and 100 fly (52.23).
Noah Fletcher finished on top in the 200 free (1:49.35) and 500 free (5:02.45). Ryan Fisher was in first place in the 100 free (52.37) and Strauss was first in the 100 breast (1:05. 73).
Fisher, Nathan Navarre, Wachter and Kyle Eacker won the 200-medley relay (1:44.17). Eacker, Fletcher, Fisher and Wachter finished on top in the 200 free relay (1:33.33).
“I am very proud of the guys for pushing through whatever obstacle they were facing and stepping up for the team,” Homan said.
Spring Lake (9-4, 4-2) will travel to Zeeland on Friday, Feb. 23.
