BIG RAPIDS – The Newaygo girls basketball team came out sluggish and fell to Big Rapids, 49-24, in CSAA play on Thursday night.

“This was our third straight game where we started off slow and it cost us tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma.  “Big Rapids played a good game and they really dictated the tempo.”

Ruby Hughes led the Lions with six points and eight rebounds, while Amaya Lathrop and Maria Riddering added four points apiece.

Newaygo (9-8, 3-6) will travel to Oakridge on Monday.
