SPRING LAKE — Grand Rapids West Catholic proved just why it is the top-ranked girls basketball team in the state in Division 2.

West Catholic darted out to a 19-3 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 58-25 victory over the Lakers, which was playing their first game after a 24-day layoff.

The lead grew to 32-15 at the half. In the second half, the visitors enjoyed a 26-10 scoring advantage.

Emma Nicles and Alexa Carter had six points each for Spring Lake (4-2, 1-1). Carter and Tessa Britt had five rebounds each. Ella Andree added five points.

Elisha Dykstra led West Catholic (9-0) with 20 points.

Spring Lake travels to Holland Christian on Friday.
