WALKERVILLE — Mesick put a crimp in the Walkerville boys’ offense on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs put pressure on Walkerville scorer Collin Chase and held him in check in a 46-38 victory in the West Michigan ‘D’ League matchup.

“They took us out of what we wanted to do,” said Walkerville coach Lee Oomen. “We struggled to move the ball against their defense. We fought back in the fourth and got within three, but could never get over the hump as we struggled to take care of the ball and make our easy buckets.”

Mesick doubled up the Wildcats, 12-6 in the first quarter. The Wildcats came back in the second, though, with a 15-10 scoring advantage and trailed 22-21 at the break.

The Bulldogs came out hot in the third, outscoring the Wildcats 17-9 and pushed its lead out to 39-30. Walkerville outscored Mesick, 8-7 in the fourth period.

Chase managed to finish with 13 points to lead the Wildcats, with Zeontae De La Paz contributing eight points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots. Jordan Oomen added eight points.

Walkerville dropped to 7-10 on the season and hosts Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in a West Michigan D League game on Thursday night.
