SPRING LAKE – The No. 10-ranked Spring Lake boys swimming team swam hard, but fell against a tough No. 3 Holland Christian, 110.5-72.5, on Tuesday.

“What made this such a special and great meet this late in the season was the team was swimming tough and through tiredness and soreness for each other,” said Spring Lake coach Mick Homan. “The guys swam with a lot of heart and pride in each race.”

The Lakers swam to 25 personal record swims, three first-place finishes and two new Division 3 state cuts.

Johnny Wachter finished on top in the 50 free (21.96) and 100 free (49.12), while Noah Fletcher finished first in the 500 free (5:13.17). Ryan Fisher (57.84) and Tyler Nutt (59.27) qualified for the state meet in the 100 back.

Kyle Eacker, Nathan Navarre, Wachter and Ryan Bonney finished runner-up in the 200-medley relay (1:48.40).

“Never once did I see them back down from a tough race,” Homan said. “This meet gave us great motivation going into our last dual of the season.”

Spring Lake (7-4, 3-2) will travel to Hamilton on Tuesday.
