The Western Michigan Christian girls’ basketball squad played suffocating defense on Friday night in a 67-15 win over Grand River Prep in Alliance League action.

The Warriors jumped out to a 32-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, led 50-14 at halftime and had a 63-14 advantage going into the last stanza.

“We played great defense tonight and forced several turnovers,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We passed the ball unselfishly and played great team basketball tonight.”

Kate Derdowski paced the Warriors with 23 points and five steals while Ashley Folkema posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 steals to go along with her six assists.

Maria Eenigenburg added seven points and grabbed eight rebounds for WMC and Kirsten VanOrman chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
