The Muskegon Big Reds take pride in their defense on the basketball court.

On Tuesday night it was on full display in the Big Reds’ 63-37 victory over Saginaw Heritage in a Division 1 regional game.

Muskegon (22-2) led 27-10 at the half and that trend continued throughout the second half. Muskegon limited the Hawks to 20 points under their season average.

That included a battle with Mr. Basketball candidate Tyler Ode, a 6-6 guard who is committed to the University of Toledo. Ode did score 25 points and add 10 rebounds, but his teammates only scored 12 points.

Muskegon was led by Keshaun Johnson, James Martin and Justin Watson with 11 points each. Terrance Davis added 10.

Muskegon will take on Cadillac at 7 p.m.  Thursday for a regional title. That game will be played at Big Rapids High School.
