MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks advanced in the NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District B Women’s Regional on Tuesday with a victory on their home court.

The Jayhawks, thanks to a third-place finish in the conference, host Delta College and routed them 89-53 at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium. The teams split their two-game season series.

On Tuesday, the Lady Jayhawks broke open a tight game with a 28-8 scoring surge in the second quarter and cruised into the next round of the tournament.

“What a great game tonight,” said MCC coach Jason Cooper. “Our team got it done on both ends of the floor. I’m very proud of them.”

The Lady Jayhawks forced 33 turnovers and turned those into 29 points. A 23-for-27 performance from the free-throw line also aided MCC in the victory.

MCC (16-12) led 17-15 after one quarter, but by halftime, the advantage grew to 45-23.  A 26-17 third-run advantage put the game out of reach.

Ty’veonna Davis had another strong game for MCC with 31 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Arrionna Williams added 22 points and four steals and McKena Wilson had 11 points and three steals. Ali Phillips added eight points, Maiya Hill had six points and seven rebounds and Remi Sponseller had four rebounds, six assists and four steals. Alexis McMahon had six points and Gaby Reeve had four.

The Lady Jayhawks will travel to Mott Community College at 6 p.m. Thursday to take on St. Clair County Community College in the semifinals of the tournament.
