SPARTA – The Spring Lake girls basketball team’s postseason run came to an end with a 48-36 loss to the No. 2-ranked Grand Rapids West Catholic Falcons on Wednesday night.

The Lakers fell behind early and found themselves down 20-9 through the first quarter. The Lakers used a run of 10 unanswered points to trail, 28-23, by halftime.

Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t carry into the second half and the Falcons again had the edge. The Lakers were outscored 20-13 over the last two quarters.

Senior Ella Andree put up 14 points, while Ellie Wrona and Tessa Britt added eight and six points, respectively.

“We say goodbye to a stellar group of seniors in Andree, Brooke Bolthouse, Alexa Carter, Anna Hyde, and Clara Saunders,” said Spring Lake coach Rich Hyde. “These girls led this year’s team to the first regional finals game in school history. They have been together since elementary school and they should be proud of everything they have accomplished together over the years.”

Spring Lake wrapped up the season with a record of 18-7 and was the fifth team in school history to have 18 or more wins.
