WHITEHALL – The Hart softball team played to a 1-1 split in a doubleheader against Whitehall on Tuesday evening.

The Vikings edged out the Pirates in game one, 4-3.

Whitehall was led by Kierra Hyrns with two hits, including a triple, and Janie Fagan with a double. Megan Leatrea was the winning pitcher with a complete-game performance. She struck out nine.

Hart pitcher Gabby Quijas faced 23 batters and threw 61 pitches in six innings. She gave up three hits, one run, one walk and struck out two batters.

For Hart, Gabby Schmieding had her first home run and a double. Makenna Carrier added a double and Reese Smith tallied a hit.

The Pirates were energized in the nightcap, as their bats came alive for a 22-7 mercy win.

Kelsey Copenhaver gave up just four hits, four runs and struck out five batters in three innings. She also led the offense with three hits, three RBI and a walk. 

Abby Hicks posted three singles and one RBI, while Carrier and Quijas added two hits apiece.

Evelyn Darke had a double and two RBI for Whitehall. Annabel Kevwitch had a double and three RBI. Taylor Ottinger had a double.

Hart (5-1) will travel to White Cloud on Wednesday for a doubleheader.

Whitehall will be at home for a doubleheader on Wednesday against Coopersville.
