HART – The Hart baseball team opened the season with a doubleheader split against McBain on Friday.

The Pirates kicked off the season with a 3-2 win, thanks to strong pitching and crucial defensive plays.

Ty Schlukebir struck out 10 batters and gave up two hits and two earned runs in six innings. The defense was highlighted by an outfield catch from Noah Smith and two short hop picks at first base by Brendan Hiddema.

The Pirates lost some steam and fell, 12-6, in the nightcap.

The Pirates did manage to plate six runs on seven hits and Blake Weirich struck out 12 batters in five innings.

Hart (1-1) will host Mason County Eastern on Saturday.
