LUDINGTON — It’s been a tough start to the season for the Ludington girls soccer team as the Orioles have failed to win a game.

Cadillac dealt the Orioles their third loss on the season (they have one tie) Thursday night with a 1-0 decision in non-conference that was every bit as close as the score indicated.

The Vikings’ goal came quite early in the contest, only 2 1/2 minutes had elapsed. It was a defensive battle the rest of the way.

“I would say Cadillac probably had more possession in the game than we did,” Ludington coach Kris Anderson said. “But we played very well defensively and limited the number of shots that Cambria Britton had to face in goal.

“Then in the second half, we had the wind a little bit behind us and we created some good scoring chances. Their keeper had to make a few pretty good saves, and a couple that just went wide.”

Other scoring opportunities that came the Orioles’ way didn’t quite develop.

Ludington was playing shorthanded as well, with scoring-threat Madison Gasaway missing.

The Orioles fell to 0-3-1 on the season and will next travel to Whitehall for a West Michigan Conference game on Monday.
