LUDINGTON — Madison Gasaway recorded a three-goal hat trick for Ludington’s girls soccer team in Wednesday night’s opening West Michigan Conference game with Montague.

But a 4-0 lead at the start of the second half didn’t hold as the Wildcats first rallied for a 3-3 tie and then overcame a 6-5 deficit to finish with a 6-all tie at Oriole Field.

Hitting the Wildcats with two lightning strikes, the Orioles built a quick 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest on goals from Gasaway and Kylee Johnson.

Another goal from Madeline Billings gave the Orioles a 3-0 lead at the half.

The Wildcats knotted the score at 3-all at the 13-minute mark of the second half.

Ludington answered that surge, however, and climbed into a 6-5 lead. Montague came right back and scored again for the 6-6 tie with three minutes left.

Mya Martin had the other Ludington goal.  Billings contributed an assist, while Cambria Britton finished with 21 saves in goal.

With the tie, Montague is 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference and is scheduled to compete in the Oakridge Invitational on Saturday.

The Orioles is 0-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference and are scheduled to host Cadillac in a non-conference game Thursday.
