CUSTER — The Mason County Eastern baseball team swept Pentwater, 16-1 and 6-2 in a West Michigan D League doubleheader at Cardinal Field on Monday.

Zach Howe paced the Cardinals offense in the first game, knocking out three hits and four runs batted in. Ron Hasenbank tripled leading off the game, while Aaron Drake and Arik VerSchuerren each contributed a double.

Keegan Nelson had a short day, working just three innings in the mercy-rule shortened contest and allowed just two hits while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Hasenbank led the way, going 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and a run scored. Howe also finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Drake was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. He threw four innings and gave up two unearned runs on one hit. He struck out eight and walked four.

Eastern bumped its record up to 4-6 on the season and hosts Hesperia on Thursday.
