SPRING LAKE – The Spring Lake baseball team split a league twinbill with Grand Rapids West Catholic on Thursday.

The Lakers fell short of a comeback after being down 4-1 in the seventh inning to lose game one, 4-3. The Lakers bounced back in the nightcap and won, 8-5.

Will May and Oliver Smies combined on the mound for 13 strikeouts in the opener.

In Game 2, Zane Stahl gave up eight hits and struck out six batters. He held West Catholic scoreless over the last five innings.

May had two hits and two RBI, while Gabe Trask added two hits. Hayden Roll scored two runs.

Spring Lake (9-4, 5-4) will travel to Traverse City West on Saturday.
