SHELBY – Kylie Brown netted four goals to help push the Shelby girls’ soccer team to an 8-0 win over Brethren in the opening round of district play on Thursday.

The Tigers led 3-0 at the half.

“Our offense was moving around in front of their goal well and we were finishing the ball,” said Shelby coach Pete Peterson. “Defensively, we were stellar allowing no shots on goal and controlling the back end and midfield play.”

Molli Schultz scored two goals and had three assists. Lydia Soelberg had a goal and two assists, while Luz Mendieta added a goal. Brylee Friedman and Hailey Jones each had an assist.

Shelby (7-9-2) will host Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in the second round of district action on Wednesday.
