MUSKEGON – The Kent City softball team swept Orchard View in a pair of high-scoring games on Wednesday.

The Eagles took the first game, 19-6, then edged out the Cardinals, 17-16.

Cailynn Hartzell allowed eight hits, six runs and stuck out four batters in the opener for the Eagles.

Laynee Hoffman had four hits, four runs and two RBI, while Kenzie Freeland had three hits, two runs and five RBI. Hartzell had three hits. Laila Mortenson chipped in a hit, two runs and two RBI.

Kent City’s Ellie Hansen allowed nine hits, 11 runs and struck out three batters in the nightcap, while Lylah Larson gave up seven hits, five runs and struck out four in relief.

Hoffman had four hits, three runs and three RBI. Hannah Stellini added two hits, three runs and an RBI. Larson threw in two hits and three RBI. Milah Mollien had two hits and scored three runs.

Kent City will be at home on Tuesday against Grant.

Orchard View travels to Kelloggsville on Thursday.
