Mona Shores, top-ranked Spring Lake end in scoreless tie in non-league soccer match

SPRING LAKE – The Mona Shores girls soccer team played to a stalemate in a battle against No. 1 Division 2 Spring Lake on Monday.

Shay Norden and Olivia Naylor stood out for the Sailors, but couldn’t produce a goal.

The Sailor backline of Mal Hogston, Emma Anderson and Amelia Coffin were able to keep the Lakers’ high-powered team off the scoreboard. Ella Kinney, Ava Freye, Lilly Houle and Katie Phillips were solid in the midfield.

Jersey VanderWall posted her seventh shutout of the season for the Sailors.

Mona Shores (11-2-2, 6-0-1) will host Muskegon in the opening round of the OK-Green tournament on Thursday.

Spring Lake (7-1-4, 5-1-1) will be at home on Wednesday.
