MUSKEGON – The combination of Joe Russau, Will Chye and Darius Williams combined for 59 points and led the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks to an 87-75 victory over the Montcalm Centurions.The Great Lakes District B quarterfinal was played at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
MCC ran out to a 41-32 lead at the half. The Centurions’ 2-3 zone was effective for a portion of the opening half before MCC started hitting from the perimeter.
The second half saw MCC outscore its opponent 46-43 and earn the victory.
Russau finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Chye, who was named the MCCAA North Player of the Week for his effort last week, scored 19 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out seven assists. Williams had 18 points, four assists and two steals.
The Jayhawks had to deal with 5-7 guard Taylen Carver, who finished with 32 points and Mason Dunn with 23.
MCC has a big task in its next game, which is 6 p.m. Friday against seventh-ranked Kalamazoo Valley Community College. That Great Lakes District B semifinal game will be played at Mott Community College’s Ballenger Fieldhouse.
