Muskegon Community College’s women’s basketball team dug themselves in too deep of a hole in their 79-53 loss to Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Saturday. The Jayhawks trailed 47-24 at halftime.

“The Jayhawks played one half of basketball,” said MCC coach Rob Recknagel. “We started the second half with a 14-3 run but couldn’t overcome the huge halftime deficit. Poor defense and rebounding plagued us, especially in the first half.”

Sonnie Kurnat led MCC with 13 points and five rebounds. Quaniesha McBride added 10 points and five rebounds and Abby Rodriguez scored nine points and had five assists.
