A second-half offensive explosion carried the Whitehall Vikings to a 4-2 nonleague soccer victory over Manistee on Monday.

Manistee led 2-0 at the half before Masiey Young scored three goals and Morgen Myers added one for the Vikings in the second half.

“We were not winning the ball and losing possession often,” Viking coach Dan Nichols said. “They were out hustling us and playing more aggressive in the first half.”

At the half, Nichols made some adjustments, especially on defense, and the results were a complete turnaround of the first half.

“They were a whole different team in the second half,” said Nichols, whose team allowed one shot on net and produced 22 of their own. “We dominated the entire second half. We just need to put together a complete game.”

Each of Young’s goals were assisted by Miranda Jacobs. Morgan Kellis assisted on Myers’ goal.

“The midfield controlled the second half, led by Morgen Myers, Morgan Kellis, Miranda Jacobs, and Sam Huebler,” Nichols said. “Also, our defensive support was stellar in the second half allowing only 1 shot. Bottom line, we saw good and bad tonight and still have some work to do to become a good team consistently.”

Whitehall is now 3-0.
