The Onekama Portagers made the trip to Muskegon on Saturday morning and went home in the afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Western Michigan Christian in girls softball action.

In the opener, Onekama won 13-4 and in the second game it was 11-3.

Ariana Brondyke, Anna Sweetman, Lorelle Hallenbeck, Carly Poel, Emilee Pell, Sara Katje and Elizabeth Pell had one hit each for WMC. Elizabeth Pell knocked in two runs while Poel and Katje knocked in one each.

Hallenbeck allowed seven hits and five earned runs in five innings of work. She walked five and struck out five.

In the second game, Brondyke, Sweetman and Poel each had one hit. Sweetman scored two runs. She also pitched five innings and allowed five earned runs.

“These were our two best games of the year,” WMC coach Jeff Nestell said. “We did very well at the plate and cut down our errors in the field.  It was great to see so many girls get hits and get on base.”
