Montague’s Luke VanBoxel continued to show why he’s a top player in the area as the Wildcats edged North Muskegon 60-53. VanBoxel scored 33 points along with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The two teams played to a slow 7-3 Montague first quarter lead but rebounded as North Muskegon cut its deficit to 26-23 by half.

Montague gave itself some breathing room after the third quarter for a 10-point, 41-31 lead.

The Norse scored 22 points in the fourth but the Wildcats responded with free throws down the stretch. Montague shot 73.3 percent from the foul line on 22 of 30 shooting.

Jacob Buchberger helped lift Montague with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The sophomore forward also shot 10 of 14 from the free throw line. VanBoxel also aided at the line to make 11 of 14.

North Muskegon had three players in double figures and was led  by Antonio Gordon’s 15 points and four steals. Mitch Edick scored 12 points and Marcos Visconti added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Brody Scott scored six points and had seven rebounds in the Norse effort.
