A five-run fifth inning was enough for Fruitport as the Trojans beat Spring Lake 9-5 in the Division 2 championship game played at Spring Lake on Saturday.

The wins sends Fruitport to regional play at Hope College next Saturday.

Fruitport scored a single run in the secodn inning and tok a 6-0 lead wit the five-run fifth.

The Lakers cut the lead to 6-3 after sinx innings, but the Trojans tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Kyle Fialek and Andrew Slocum had two hits each for the Trojans and Jason Carmean drove in a pair of runs.

Austin Curtis, Fialek, Mitchell Reyes, Slocum and Jarod Wierengo all drove in runs for Fruitport.

Curtis was the winning pitcher scattering right hits and fanning four in seven innings.

Brandon DeYoung and Kyle Houts had two hits each for the Lakers.

Jorge Lozano fanned seven in four innings for Spring Lake.

Fruitport beat Cooperville 3-2 and Spring Lake defeated Sparta 8-3 in the semifinals.
