Jensyn Stanberry controlled a beautiful cross from Emily Winicki in the first overtime and booted it into the net for the game-winning goal.

The Crusaders lit up the scoreboard in the first 10 minutes of the first half and the score remained at 1-0 until Stanberry headed in a cross from Isabelle Raven early in the second period.

Neither team could find the back of the net throughout the rest of regulation, forcing two 10-minute overtime sessions.

Goalie Marisa Carmean made nine saves in net for the Trojans.

Fruitport coach Jeannie McClain commended her squad for being mentally tough after falling behind early.

“We overcame a deficit in tough conditions and fought out a win against a quality opponent,” she said. “I loved the toughness, tenacity and grit we brought to the table. This is a building block.”

The Trojans next take the field on Friday as they host Division 1 power Caledonia.
