The Hesperia softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Newaygo Wednesday night.

Hesperia won the opener 8-4. Pitcher Ellie Palmer picked up the win on the mound, striking out 11 batters through seven innings. Caragan Frees led the Panther offense with three hits and four RBIs. Daelyn McKinnon recorded a solo home run.

The Panthers came up short 9-5 in Game 2. Natalie McGahan recorded one hit and one RBI while McKinnon added a double for Hesperia.

Hesperia, now 1-1, travels to Holton on Friday to open up conference play.

ORCHARD VIEW 10-11, COVENANT CHRISTIAN 8-6 – Allie Tenhove pitched the victory in Game 1 for the Cardinals, striking out 13 batters.

OV was led offensively by Lauren Wroblewski with three hits while Shamony Mckentry added two.

Halee Holman picked up the win in Game 2, striking out six hitters.

Tenhove and Madi Brown paced the Cardinals during the nightcap with two hits and three RBI’s while Casside White had two hits.

Orchard View is now 3-1 overall on the season.

TUESDAY

MONA SHORES 15-16, MUSKEGON 0-0 – In Game 1 Lauryn Patterson picked up the win on the mound for Mona Shores, striking out 10. Zoie Willeke and Maddison Van Etten each had RBI hits for the Sailors.

In Game 2 Van Etten pitched the shutout while striking out 7. Madison Mettler had two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer. Shelby Savacool added hits and two RBIs while Van Etten helped her cause with three hits and two RBIs.

NORTH MUSKEGON 20-12, SHELBY 2-2 – Kendall Zoulek struck out seven batters in Game 1 for the Tigers, who were led offensively in a losing effort by Courtney Brown with two hits and two RBIs.

In Game 2, Shelby was paced by Zoulek with two hits and an RBI while Sharon Josephson and Abby Jimison each added a hit.
