The Spring Lake softball team has advanced to the Division 2 state quarterfinals for the third straight year.

The Lakers earned that distinction with two convincing wins en route to a regional championship at Grand Rapids South Christian on Saturday.

Spring Lake beat Portland 11-0 in five innings in the regional semifinals, then downed Grand Rapids South Christian 15-0 in the finals in three innings.

In the semifinals, Leah Vaughan led the Spring Lake offense with three hits and four runs. Vaughan was also the winning pitcher, going three innings while allowing two hits and striking out six .

Avery Flynn pitched the last two innings to complete the shutout. Flynn and Alicia Mumby each had  two hits for the Lakers while Juliette Goldberg scored two runs.

In the final, all nine starters scored for the Lakers. Leah Vaughan, Jenna Core, Molly Poole and Layni Wyns each had two hits. Vaughan had a three-run homer in the third inning. Vaughan was also the winning pitcher, striking out eight of 10 batters and finishing with an no-hitter.

Spring Lake will face Stevensville Lakeshore Tuesday in the quarterfinals at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
