The West Michigan Whitecaps opened up their series at Dayton with a 5-4 loss on Tuesday night, extending their losing streak to eight games.

The Whitecaps took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Reynaldo Rivera scored on a Vinny Esposito hit by pitch.

In the third inning, Ulrich Bojarski scored on a Dayton error to give the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead.

Dayton responded however with two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth, taking a 5-2 lead.

The Whitecaps cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth inning when Esposito doubled home Jose King.

In the ninth inning, Bojarski singled home Wenceel Perez making the score 5-4 in favor of Dayton which was ultimately the final.

Bojarski led the Whitecaps with three hits and one RBI on the night while Esposito had one hit and two RBIs.

The Whitecaps are now 20-45 overall and in last place of the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.

On Wednesday, the Whitecaps and Dragons will continue their series with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
