The Grand Haven volleyball team continued to get some action in up north, where competition is still allowed, and posted two big victories in three matches on Monday at the Traverse City Central quad.

The Bucs, playing for only the second time this season due the COVID ban in the southern part of the Lower Peninsula, opened the day with a grueling 28-26, 25-23, 13-25, 22-25,15-6 win over Traverse City West, then posted a 24-21, 30-28, 25-21 victory over Traverse City Central.

Grand Haven lost its third match in straight sets to Lowell.

Tessa Winkleman had a productive day for the Bucs with 32 kills and six aces. Paige Redder served up seven aces and Samantha Boeve had 94 assists. Defensively, Hallie Rittel totaled 48 digs, Boeve had 22 and Redder totaled 20.

Grand Haven, now 5-1 on the season in matches, will host a home quad on Thursday and the annual Battle on the Boardwalk tournament on Friday, if volleyball gets clearance to play throughout the state by then.

If that doesn’t occur, the Bucs will travel to play in Cadillac on Friday.
