A dominant third quarter led Ravenna over North Muskegon in a West Michigan Conference showdown Thursday. The Bulldogs held a 23-9 advantage in the third to blow open a tie game en route to a 59-49 win, their first of the new year.

Ravenna led 13-10 after one quarter, but the Norse battled back to tie the game at 25-25 heading to the half. The Bulldogs’ big third quarter left the score 48-34 after three.

North Muskegon outscored Ravenna 15-11 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to come back.

Joel Emery scored 17 points for Ravenna to lead all scorers, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists. Kyle Beebe had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals and Dom Jones added 11 points.

Brennen McManus led the Norse with 15 points, while Will Gallo scored 14 and Marcellus Rose posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

Ravenna is now 1-1 on the season, while North Muskegon starts 0-1. 

O-K GREEN CONFERENCE

MUSKEGON 63, GRAND RAPIDS UNION 44 — The Big Reds picked up their second win of the early season, beating Union Thursday. Muskegon led 11-6 after one quarter, 27-16 at the half and 40-26 following the third.

Kalil Stimage led the Big Reds with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Anthony Sydnor III added 10 points, Maurice Sain scored eight and Ethan Hill netted seven. 

ZEELAND EAST 50, REETHS-PUFFER 29 — The Rockets (1-1) struggled from behind the arc as the Chix pulled away in the second half of an O-K Green game. Reeths-Puffer trailed just 23-19 at halftime, but were outscored 27-10 after the break.

Kendall Smith led the Rockets with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Kaleb Mitchelson had six. The rockets were just 3-22 from three-point range. 

LAKES 8 CONFERENCE

ORCHARD VIEW 77, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 44 — Ke’ontae Barnes scored 25 points to lead the Cardinals to a Lakes 8 win over MCC. 

Donovan Daniels registered a double-double for OV with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while JJ Tunstull scored 12 points and Darius Williams contributed eight points and 10 assists. 

The Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 0-2. 

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

OAKRIDGE 60, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 40 — The Eagles controlled throughout to top MCC in West Michigan Conference action.

The Eagles led 18-7 after the first quarter, 31-13 entering halftime, and 41-27 at the end of the third quarter.

Oakridge was led by Ethan Jozsa with 16 points, while Luke Martin added 11 points and nine rebounds on the night. Garret Wever contributed nine points, six rebounds, seven assists, and five steals in their win.

Mason County Central was led by Will Chye with 21 points.

Oakridge improves to 2-0 on the season, while Mason County Central falls to 0-2. 

SHELBY 57, HART 27 — A pair of double-figure scorers led Shelby to its second win of the season Thursday. Logan Claeys led the Tigers with 17 points and Joseph Hayes added 15 points. Bishop Lee led the Tigers with eight rebounds while tossing in eight points. 

Zach Bitely led Hart with 12 points, while Parker Hovey added nine.

The Tigers led 12-6 following the first quarter, 26-14 at halftime, and 41-24 at the end of the third.

Shelby improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Pirates fall to 0-2.
