ALLENDALE — Spring Lake’s boys basketball trailed Allendale by eight points at the end of the first quarter, and then crawled back into the game Wednesday night in the OK Conference Blue only to come up on the short end of a 53-50 decision.

With four minutes left in the game, the Lakers had moved into a 45-44 lead. But that wasn’t enough of a point spread, and the Falcons forced a 50-50 tie.

The Falcons ate up the clock, and Matthew Jozwiak hit from long distance from the left wing giving the Falcons their three-point lead and only four ticks on the clock remaining in regulation.

Spring Lake threw up a 3-point try as time expired that which failed to hit the mark, and that was that.

Allendale shook the Lakers with a 20-12 scoring splurge in the first quarter, but Spring Lake had no intention of going away and came back with a 16-11 second period and trailed only 31-28 at the half.

Spring Lake kept battling, outscoring the Falcons, 14-12 in the third quarter to draw within one, 43-42 as the teams took the floor for the fourth period. Allendale prevailed with 10-8 edge in the last period.

Kaden George led all scorers in the game with 20 points for the Lakers, while Eli Morrison scored 11 and Porter Saunders added seven points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

The Lakers saw their record drop to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the OK Blue as the Falcons snapped Spring Lake’s two-game winning streak. Spring Lake is next scheduled to see action hosting Holland Christian on Friday.
