HART — Mason County Central’s girls softball team split a West Michigan Conference doubleheader with Hart on the road Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first game 12-1 while bouncing back in the nightcap for a 6-2 victory.

In the first game Wren Nelson took the circle for the Spartans and threw 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on two walks, a hit and two hit batters.

Grace Weinert relieved her to pitch the remaining 3 1/3 innings. She gave up nine runs, eight of them earned, on four hits and five walks.

Leading hitters for the Spartans in the first game were Geralyn Soberalski and Jessica Gerbers who each were 1-for-2. Gerbers drove in one run.

The nightcap saw Nelson return to the cirlce and this time she went the distance, throwing seven full innings and gave up five hits, one walk and struck out eight.

Gerbers paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Emily Adams was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored one.

Also getting hits for the Spartans were Soberalski, Riley Mast with a run scored and one RBI, Alex Luttrell with one RBI and Maxie Green with a run scored. Also scoring a run was Aylin Davila.
