WHITEHALL — Hart’s baseball team lost a West Michigan Conference doubleheader with Whitehall, losing the first game 11-5 and 10-0 on the road Thursday.

S. Cole was the winning pitcher in the first game, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with one walk. T. Hardy pitched the last 3 2/3 inings and gave up one run on one hit, one walk and struck out four.

R. Christensen led the Vikings at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run batted in and two runs scored. E. Ritchie was 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. J. McDowell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and B. Schmehil drove in two runs.

In the first game the Pirates had five hits, Blake Weirich leading with two while Carter Ramseyer, Ty Schlukebir and Logan Purdy each had one.

Brandon VanderZanden pitched well in the four innings he worked in relief, but the Vikings had a big inning early and then another late to win.

The Pirates scored three runs in the fourth inning to close the deficit to two runs.

Hart used four different pitchers and they kept the Pirates in the game.

But the Vikings put up a four-spot in the top of the seventh which locked down their victory.

J. Brinkert pitched all six innings for the Vikings and gave up no runs, scattered five hits and struck out eight.

L. Howe was 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored to lead the Vikings offensively. E. Ritchie was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Kyle Stratton had one RBI and a run scored, R. Christiensen had one RBI and two runs scored, R. Goodrich had one RBI, Schmehil had one RBI and McDowell had one RBI.

Weirich and Kyan Clark each knocked out two hits to lead the Pirates’ offense.
