SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s girls volleyball team pulled out a thrilling five-set match over Ravenna in a West Michigan Conference-Rivers dual match at home Tuesday night.

The Spartans opened the night with a 26-24 victory in the first set, but then lost the next two, 21-25, 20-25 before rallying for a 26-24 win in set four to force a fifth and deciding set, which they won 15-10.

“I’m so excited for our girls to take this conference match,” said Spartans head coach Erin O’Harra. “We fell behind and fought for every point.

“All of our players did an amazing job tonight.”

Big hitters for the Spartans were Wren Nelson who was 43-of-49 in attacks with seven kills, Tori Dunblazier who was 35-of-40 in hits with 16 kills and Charlie Banks who was 27-of-29 in attacks with five kills.

Primary setter Alayna Rafter was phenomenal, setting at 1.000 percent at 51-of-51 with 14 assists. She also was 27-of-29 in digs and 18-of-19 serving with one kill.

Banks was a perfect 19-of-19 serving and 23-of-26 in serve receive. Aylin Davila was 12-of-12 serving, 2-of-4 in serve receive and 7-of-11 in digs.

Ashlyn Mckay finished 12-of-16 at the service line with two aces, 9-of-10 in serve receive, 9-of-11 in digs, 16-of-18 attacking with two kills and had three blocks.

Dunblazier was 11-of-13 serving, 14-of-16 serve receive, 14-of-22 in digs and had five blocks. Riley Mast had four digs, two kills and two blocks.

The Spartans are idle now until Tuesday when they travel to Hart for another conference match.

Ravenna will host Fremont on Thursday, Sept. 15th.
