SCOTTVILLE — Host Mason County Central girls’ basketball team recorded a win Thursday night by defeating Shelby 50-33 in the West Michigan Conference-Rivers Division.

The Spartans got off to a fast start by outscoring the visiting Tigers, 22-7, in the first quarter. Add to it a 9-6 edge in the second for a 31-13 lead at the half.
 
Firing on all cylinders after the halftime break, the Spartans outscored the Tigers 24-8 in the third and padded their lead to 55-21,
 
Wren Nelson fired in 20 points to lead the Spartans. Mallory Miller contributed 13 points and dished out four assists. Jessica Peterson added eight points.
 
Shelby was led by Molli Schultz with 18 points and Biloxi Lee scored 11 points.
 
Mason County Central (16-3, 9-2 WMC-Rivers) is scheduled to host Fruitport Calvary Christian in non-conference action next Monday.
 
Shelby (9-12, 6-6 WMC-Rivers) closes out the regular season Monday night at Montague in the conference.
