GRAND RAPIDS–In a rematch from last year’s girls regional championship game, the Kent City Eagles girls survived another game with Northpointe Christian 45-37, in opening round action at the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament (Silver Division).

Kent City jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter of action and extended that lead to 30-17 by the halftime break.

Northpointe Christian got back in the game, outscoring Kent City 16-5 to narrow the Eagles lead down to 35-33 going into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles held the upper hand in the final eight minutes 10-4 to hang on for the eight point win.

Lexie Bowers led the Kent City offense with a game high 22 points, eight rebounds, four assist, four steals and two blocked shots.
 
Maddie Geers tossed in 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, three assist, three steals and two blocked blocks.
 
Hailey Kamphuis chipped in with 8 points while Abby Pecynski hauled down a team leading 9 rebounds.
 
Kent City (5-2) will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they will play in the championship game at 4:45 PM.
