HESPERIA–The White Cloud Indians boys’ basketball team wasted little time of cruising past the Hesperia Panthers on Monday evening

The Indians 10 shots from beyond the 3-point arc on their way to a 67-23 win over the host Panthers.

White Cloud junior Jayson Ruether led the White Cloud offense with 12 points by knocking down four 3-point shots. Junior Noah Robinson also scored 12 points.

Juniors Kevin Strait and Jared Watson each tossed in nine points, respectively, for the Indians.

“We have a lot of young guys that are contributing this year,” said White Cloud coach Bob Jones. “Actually, this is probably the best group that I have had talent wise. Surprisingly that is the best we have shot this year from the outside tonight.

“That’s probably our biggest attribute is that we have shooters who will shoot the ball and knock it down when they are open,” he said. “Tonight, we were consistent with knocking down our shots and we have to be that way because as you can tell we are not very tall.”

White Cloud jumped out of the gate fast with a 23-9 lead after one quarter of play.

The Indians took a 41-13 halftime lead by outscoring Hesperia 18-4 in the second period.

White Cloud held scoring advantages of 19-5 and 7-5 in the third and fourth quarters. The game was played with a running clock with two minutes remaining in the third quarter until the final buzzer.

Senior Matteo Materdomini led Hesperia with 12 points.

“The sophomores that we have are a work in progress said Hesperia coach Andrew Worcester. “I’m proud of guys and thought they did a really good job. We just couldn’t finish at the basket tonight and the layups just really cost us,” Worcester said.

White Cloud (3-0) will host Central Montcalm on Friday evening while Hesperia (0-4) will host North Muskegon on Thursday evening.
