MONTAGUE — The streak goes on for the Montague girls’ basketball team.

It reached four straight Monday night with a lopsided 52-21 victory over visiting Shelby in a non-conference game.

But it didn’t start out like a runaway, by any means, as the Tigers matched the Wildcats basket for basket in the first quarter and the game was tied at 13-all.

Shelby struggled to find any openings in the Wildcats’ defense in the second quarter, and Montague outscored the Tigers, 14-0 to power into the half with a 27-13 lead.

The Wildcats had a 25-8 scoring advantage in the second half to pull away from the Tigers.

Ella King led the Tigers with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Amanda Cedarquist added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Braylyn Bultema also scored 10 points and had two rebounds, while Emma Peterson scored seven points and dished out five assists.

Shelby was led by Molli Schultz with seven points and four rebounds. Kendall Zaverl added six points and two steals.

Montague (14-7, 8-3 WMC-Lakes) resumes conference play at Oakridge on Thursday.

Shelby (9-13, 6-6 WMC-Rivers) hosts Hesperia next Monday in its final regular-season game.
