WYOMING —  The Mona Shores Sailors received a strong game on the mound from Trevor Cunningham and captured Game 1 of a doubleheader with Wyoming on Tuesday.

The Sailors won the first game, 3-2, with Wyoming taking the second game in walkoff fashion, 3-2.

Cunningham struck out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed two unearned runs. Bryson Belanger came on and earned the save.

Jaxon Huffman belted his first home run of the season that gave Shores the lead for good. Belanger added a hit and RBI.

In the nightcap, Brady Recknagel allowed two runs in six innings of work. He allowed three hits and struck out six.

With the game deadlocked at 1-all in the seventh inning, Mona Shores Javanni Johnson led off with a tripe to right center and scored on an error. However, the Sailors allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning and lost 3-2.

Isaac Habetler had an RBI single to plate the other Sailors’ run.

The Sailors (7-2, 4-1) host Wyoming on Thursday in the finale of the three-game series.
