HESPERIA — Hart’s girls softball team swept a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division doubleheader at Hesperia on Tuesday, 13-11 and 17-6.

In the opener, Gabby Quijas went the distance in the circle, allowing 11 hits and four earned runs while issuing six free passes. The defense committed 10 errors.

Leading the way at the plate was Makenna Carrier, who had three hits with two doubles and drove in three runs. The Pirates had 10 hits in all, with seven players getting at least one hit.

Kelsey Copenhaver was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. She threw the first four innings and gave up one hit while striking out nine. Nora Chickering pitched the last two innings and also allowed just one hit and one run.

Carrier again led the Pirates offense, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Julia Bishop contributed two hits. Also getting hits were Makayla Rockwell, Copenhaver, Leah Walker and Abby Hicks.

The Pirates are back in action Thursday at Marion.

Hesperia hosts Chippewa Hills on Friday.
